Starting september 2023 you can try Azure SQL Database free of charge and get 100.000 vCore seconds of compute every month. This is very nice for development purposes where you need a SQL database for temporary usage.

- Go to the azure portal and select to create a sql database or use the link https://portal.azure.com/#create/Microsoft.SQLDatabase
- You will see a banner for the offer at the top of the page
Note: Do check what you want to do when the amount of usage per month is exceeded. You can pause the database to prevent extra costs. This can be chosen on the basics setup page.
